Rules
Prompt Snacks is a collection of power phrases for coding agents.
1. Reading is open
Every page is public, including Needs a vote. GitHub sign-in is only for adding, voting, unvoting, reporting, or suggesting a tag.
2. Submitting
Body is 1–140 characters. No links. No http(s)://, no www., no domain-like x.y/… patterns. When to use? is optional, unlimited, and follows the same no-links rule. Pick 1–3 tags from the fixed list or suggest a new one if you can't find one that fits. 10 submissions per user per rolling 24 hours.
3. Duplicates
We normalize the body (lowercase, strip punctuation, collapse whitespace). If a living power phrase matches, the form stays put with “This power phrase already exists” and a link to it.
4. Going live
A new power phrase is not shown to public and is created with a pending status. It becomes public the moment it has at least 1 upvote from someone other than its author. Authors cannot upvote themselves.
5. Unvoting
Unvoting is allowed. If non-author votes drop to 0, the power phrase goes back to pending. It drops out of Popular, search engines, and share cards until it earns a vote again.
6. Editing
Authors can edit body, When to use?, and tags any time. Every edit to a power phrase that has ever been public creates a version. The page then shows “See versions (n).”
7. Deleting
Authors can delete their own power phrases.
8. Reports
Reason required: spam, off-topic, offensive, duplicate, or other. A note is optional except for “other”. One report per user per power phrase. 3 reports from distinct users hide it. No instant email. It shows up in the daily admin digest. An admin restores it (clearing reports) or removes it.
9. Bans
Admins only. A banned user’s power phrases become hidden, their votes are deleted (which can send other phrases back to pending), and they can no longer act.
10. Tags
Fixed list: verification, debugging, planning, review, testing, refactoring, performance, security. Suggest a new tag with a name and why. Admin accepts it or denies it with a required reason, shown on the suggestion and included in the digest.
11. Ranking
Popular means public upvote count, ties broken by the newer published_at. There is no karma. A person’s score is total upvotes received. The Leaderboard ranks people by that score, plus how many public power phrases they have.
12. SEO
Pending, hidden, and removed pages send noindex. The sitemap lists public power phrases only.
Phrase of the Day
At 00:05 UTC we pick the power phrase first published the previous UTC day with the most upvotes received that day. Ties go to the earlier publish time. No eligible phrases means no winner that day. The archive lives under Leaderboard, Phrase of the Day.
